People with small living rooms often tend to buy large chairs and sofas and compensate by buying a small coffee table. While an oversize coffee table will give small room an unbalanced look, a small table surrounded by large heavy furniture will also look odd. Since it is the over effect that counts, look at the space available and make sure that the dimensions of the furniture and the coffee table are in proportion. Its also important to keep in mind what the table will be used for. If you will be using it to work on or for snacking, it has to be big enough to serve the purpose.
